Rev. Wright and the Downside of Soundbite

This WaPost "The Trail" piece by Jose Antonio Vargas quotes me on the downside of being a sound bite machine:

"Coverage of the Rev. Wright's recent remarks has been one of the few instances where the conservative blogosphere is in step with the media," said Matt Lewis, a blogger and director of operations at Townhall.com, the popular conservative site. "And, to make matters worse for Obama, Rev. Wright delivers soundbites so effectively. Clips of his sermons and speeches will be replayed over and over again, even when the story falls off the front page. Conservatives will be pushing it."

Branding "Operation Chaos"

Rush Limbaugh wasn't the first person to ponder the idea of interfering in another party's primary process, but he was the one to name it, and that makes a huge difference.

The term, "operation chaos" was a brilliant way to brand the concept. It clearly and cleverly described the event, and the name guaranteed the idea would become viral. Bloggers and pundits love to say and write, "operation chaos."

Of course, this may have all been done for marketing purposes; Rush needed something to talk about for those six or seven weeks of emptiness leading up to the Pennsylvania primary.

Regardless, his branding of the idea was brilliant.
